Collectible Athlete Series Supporting Charities of Choice
Six outstanding athletes provided their names and likenesses in a collectible series. Yue Ling Chen was China's first Olympic gold medalist in race walking (1992). Julie Foudy wa a gold medalist in soccer (1996). Bryan Ivie was a silver medalist in volleyball (1992). Rose Magers was silver medalist in volleyball (1984). Danielle Scott was one of the bright stars of volleyball in 1996. Last, but not least, was Dennie Shupryt-Knoop, outstanding beach volleyball player with the Women's Professional Tour. Each of these athletes donated the right to use their pictures on a collectible series of prepaid phonecards to support the following charities: Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, Women's Sports Foundation, Help Hospitalized Children, and the National Kidney Foundation. Support sponsors included Teletrust and Global Network Exchange (who provided phonecard minutes), Global Affinity Group (who provided the marketing), Worldwide Digital, (who provided the card production, and Intele-Card News (who provided place of distribution). These sponsors and athletes were also acknowledged on the prompts. The promotion of this collectible series was showcased at the 1996 International Intele-Card Show in Miami. This program also involved another phase. Each of these six athletes autographed a limited number of the 200 phonecards produced. (Samples of these autographed cards can be seen n the pictorials.) A few sets of these autographed cards were provided by each of the above charities as auction items and as additional sources of revenue.
